Baltimore Inspired by Poe, featuring 26 works by Baltimore residents inspired by Poe’s dark tales created during a series of free workshops held at Enoch Pratt Free Library branches, is a companion exhibition to The Baltimore Museum of Art's Edgar Allan Poe: A Baltimore Icon. Both shows explore the enduring relevance of signature themes in Poe’s writing: Love & Loss, Fear & Terror, and Madness & Obsession.

Additional works created during the Enoch Pratt Free Library workshops are available for viewing at the BMA's Flickr site.

Both exhibitions are on view October 4, 2009, through January 17, 2010, and are FREE to the public. In addition to Art on Purpose events on October 11 and November 1 at the museum, the BMA also features two more Poe-inspired events:

The Lonely American
Sunday, January 10, 3–4 p.m.

Tom Hall, WYPR host of Choral Arts Classics and Arts and Culture Contributor for Maryland Morning with Sheilah Kast, moderates a discussion about loneliness and its impact on modern society with Dr. Jacqueline Olds and Dr. Richard Schwartz, authors of The Lonely American: Drifting Apart in the Twenty-first Century (2009).

48-HOUR FILM PROJECT
A Cinematic Celebration of Edgar Allan Poe

Fridays, December 4 & 11
6 p.m., galleries open; 8 p.m., film screening

The BMA and the Baltimore 48 Hour Film Project present this program. Local filmmakers, both professional and amateur, produced short movies inspired by Poe and the BMA’s exhibition. Films will be screened in the BMA’s Meyerhoff Auditorium.

All events at the museum are FREE and open to the public!

The exhibition is made possible by the generosity of Robbye and Kevin Apperson, with additional support from Rosenberg I Martin I Greenberg, LLP. In-kind support for framing is provided by Fleckenstein Gallery & Archival Framing.

The exhibition is part of Baltimore’s citywide festival Nevermore 2009, which celebrates the 200th anniversary of Poe’s birth.
