Project: Speaking of Silence I
Screenings of contemporary silent films selected by Gina Braden interspersed with live performances by the actress/artist on the theme of Waiting, Isolation, and Silence. Performances include:
Keep it Down, a silent clown piece with live piano accompaniment.
Eurydice Alone, excerpts from the original performance piece on the Orpheus myth told from Eurydice's point of view.
I'm Ulrike - Screaming, a monologue from "A Woman Alone and Other Plays" by Franca Rame and Dario Fo.
Audience Members will also have the opportunity to sign up to be interviewed or contribute a written story about the effect of silence in their own lives. These stories will form the basis of four short theatrical pieces that will constitute a fully produced hour long play to be performed as part of a future Speaking of Silence program in 2007-2008.
Speaking of Silence I is on view at Sub-Basement Artist Studios, an extraordinary space hidden away in a former downtown department store at The Atrium at Market Center, 118 N. Howard Street, Baltimore.

Join members of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society in a reception & viewing of Joseph Grigely: St. Cecilia, featuring the Chamber Choir of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, at The Contemporary Museum (100 W. Centre Street, Baltimore) from 5:30-6:30pm, followed just eight blocks away 7:00-8:00pm at Sub-Basement Artist Studios with a concert by percussionist Tom Goldstein, of works by John Cage, Toshi Ichiyanagi, Tom DeLio, and others that make extensive use of silence. Guests include Gina Braden and the UMBC Percussion Ensemble.
